Some Bookies to close this week?

I live in the North West and have just read that with the new three tier system being introduced this week, those area on the most serve "alert" will have betting shops, casinos and I assume arcades closed.

Do you think this is the end for even more high Street betting shops (a lot here haven't reopened since the first lockdown) and will hard hit arcades recover?

Also Darren, do you have enough content just in case?

It's probably the end for a lot of betting shops, William Hill pretty much gave up on the stake change, so they were lucky as most hadn't re-opened prior to the lockdown.

I kind of have enough content, I was planning on reserving some additional videos as it's looking like half-term is being planned for a lockdown, but Boris changes his mind a lot, so we'll have to see what happens.

Yes there's a lot in central Manchester that have closed to never see the light of day again. Many had gone with the stake cut and then a good few more since the national lockdown.

I feel for the arcades, who have invested a fair few quid on the screens, checks and social distancing measures. In fact the social distance measures there are a lot better than most other places I've visited.

I’ve just been to ladbrokes for tomorrow’s football coupon I asked if they were closing later in the week

shrugg of the shoulders and a death stare is all I got

I’m 7 miles from Nottingham city centre tier 3 according to the local paper 😔

no half term closures anywhere planned everything is set in stone for 4 weeks min thats set in law

All Bookies will close in Liverpool city zone from Wednesday, I'm pretty sure they can step up the risk of a zone at anytime, so unless cases come down the rest of the north west will be closely following.

What are the benefits of playing slots in a betting shop as opposed to on line? Can anyone explain please? On line slots offer better rtp and a wider variety of games and if you get a bonus it doesn't have to stop at £500. The only reason I play a bookie slot is if I happen to be in there placing my horseracing bets.

I agree with your points, however for me there’s a few reasons I prefer bookies.

Payout times can be a pain, especially if you then need to provide documentation. Heard some horror stories on this forum, albeit probably the vast minority of cases.

My personality is another reason, I have to keep myself occupied or I get twitchy. I play mobile games a lot of the time, if I have an online casino at my fingertips it’d probably be quite dangerous for me. Right now for instance, there’s nothing to do at work so I’m browsing this forum!

I also prefer the appearance of them - Super Star Turns looks great on the terminal but online looks a complete mess....

I only pop in to the bookies when I’m passing, I play lowest stakes and may stick in £20. I have no illusions of winning in the long term and as long as the percentage is acceptable (I think it’s between 86%-95% on 20p depending on the game) I don’t mind having a flutter with the change in my pocket. And if you do hit it big, there’s nothing better than the feeling of Coral handing you a big wad of cash 😉

I'd agree with blind haze, I don't bet online due to my character, it's too easy to get carried away.  Also I'm not a fan of waiting for payout and handing over all my personal data to go through countless verification processes. Also they look better on a cabinet than they do on my phone.

I much prefer arcades to bookies, which I assume are in the same boat in Merseyside. Arcades seem to be much cleaner without a smack head watching over your shoulder, plus you get a free coffee 🙂

I prefer bookies or arcade to online, RTP is higher online, but win values seem to be poorer e.g a row of tens would be a £10 win in arcade for a £1 but only £5 online, and online rainbow riches pot values are poor

Darren, this is your big chance to expand your empire.  A range of bakeries at old bookies premises but with a slots arcade.  Eat a sausage roll while playing Each Way Nudger.  Sounds good to me, this is what Mansfield town centre needs.

I’m a hucknall lad Peter,Mansfield’s a good town good nightlife apart from the water meadows where my kids caught a stomach bug 🤮🤮

but I agree more arcades 👍
