Money has no value to a gambler

Recommended Posts

I wondered if it was just me that would have to consider making a purchase, be it for clothes or whatever, can i afford £70 for them trainers, no, an hour later i would piss £70 away in a machine in 10 minutes  and ask myself why tf did i just do that, makes no sense

Absolutely. It's not about the money for a lot of people especially problem gamblers. The feeling of happiness is what's so addictive to buying. We do £1 spins and then theres 3 lines winning 10p each, we lose 70p on that spin but because its shown 3 wins and nice little flashes and the word WIN, we are subconsciously happy for losing 70p and cant wait for that again! Crazy right?

Oh yeah definitely, I rarely treat myself to some decent new clothes, but would allow the machine to swallow £2-£300

I've always thought that gamblers have become hardened to loosing. They shrug it off. Humans are typically loss adverse and we typically remember loosing £200 more than we would winning £200.  Somehow gamblers blank losses out or remember wins more than losses.

I must say that losing a few quid before you win does give the gambler a much better rush than just winning from the off however daft it sounds 🤔🥴 and nowadays I tell anyone and try to practice this myself if you get a decent win BUY something just so you can’t give it the bookie, arcade or casino back I’ve found it makes a difference?

The change to 2 pound stakes  on the FOBT’s was the best thing that could happen for me. For some reason I always spent way too much money on those machines, but was always very controlled in the casino, never quite understood my psyche on that one. I rarely play them now and prefer sticking to once a month in casino and usual horse/football bets

The £2 stakes bug the life out of me.. I've already given a value to the mega spins and subsequently end up chasing a go on them once I'm £30+ deep thinking "it's just a £30 game it has to go in a second" last Thursday Spartacus mega spins premium play hit one mega game in £206 it's a total disgrace.

Those that are still playing them now are probably getting more hammered than the old days as it's quite clear from comments on here and youtube uploads the %'s have been messed with and those special £2 mega spins are daylight robbery with many people having to pay close to the Jackpot amount of £500 to get a feature and then get a fraction of that back.

Quite satisfying today. I popped in 2 bookies in a city centre, both almost empty and nobody playing the fobt's and oh...I put £5 on a 20/1 outsider and it won so I took £100 from one of them, left the shop instantly. In the old days the FOBT would have got that.

good restraint.

I could tell so many stories on this topic it frightening...

since the “£2 cap” cake in I have had some horrific days... £2.5k, £1.75k, umpteen £500-£1k losses etc.

Ive also had some brilliant days +£2.5k in an hour etc.

soneone above said gamblers are hardened to losing and I agree, I lost that £2.5k and just carried on with life, was I gutted, yes of course I was but I accepted it and moved on.

Thur ultra play is so volatile, I’ve seen me lose £300 without a shot and then get 5 dead spins as my reward at least at £50 a pop you got the 5 dead spins for your trouble.

But here’s where the premium play is devilishly clever.... Take a game like Super Star Turns, on Ultra play you kip the red wheel and get 25+ spins it’s an almost guaranteed jackpot, now play the £2 ordinary base game and you might be lucky to win £150-£200 off that same feature because the win values are so dramatically increased on ultra play. Drops of Gold is another, get 30 free spins and you’re counting the £500 most times as there are 200 win lines and they’re doubled...

Thats clever because once you start playing the ultra spins you know it’s volatile as hell but a decent feature is far more likely to pay a top prize than any other variant so if you do play on ordinary £2 stake and win £200, you don’t see it as winning £200, you see it as losing £300!!!!! In the end all you play is the ultra version as everything else just frustrates and annoy’s you!

Thus is why I’m trying not to play at all now, I’ll go a few weeks though and then end up playing and if I win the cycle starts until I get a right good pasting one day and then I’ll be off it again for a while... rinse and repeat....

As the WOPR said “A strange game Professor Falken, the only way to win is not to play”.......

Just like me, win lose win lose, usually win under £100, lose under £1k, just like last week, 2k down the drain, on rocky 2

Totally agree with all the above been to shopping centre with 2K in my pocket really wanted some new trainers but thought I could win the money for them obviously lost everything so if I would have just brought my trainers I could have went home with £1900 in the end I left with no trainers and £000 in my pocket.

If a gambler gets a win then he only sees the winnings as more play money, it's lost all meaning other than being able to play longer and harder.

The thought of spending £70 on some trainers can wait till I win another £1000..... then I'll buy trainers

I remember Jimmy White [snooker for the youngsters] saying he was at home looking out the window at his car, knowing in  the boot was his poker winnings from the night  before. Wifey probably knew nothing .... but it was burning him up as he just wanted to play again... £100k in his boot.

It was just play tokens.
