I wondered if it was just me that would have to consider making a purchase, be it for clothes or whatever, can i afford £70 for them trainers, no, an hour later i would piss £70 away in a machine in 10 minutes  and ask myself why tf did i just do that, makes no sense

Absolutely. It's not about the money for a lot of people especially problem gamblers. The feeling of happiness is what's so addictive to buying. We do £1 spins and then theres 3 lines winning 10p each, we lose 70p on that spin but because its shown 3 wins and nice little flashes and the word WIN, we are subconsciously happy for losing 70p and cant wait for that again! Crazy right?

I've always thought that gamblers have become hardened to loosing. They shrug it off. Humans are typically loss adverse and we typically remember loosing £200 more than we would winning £200.  Somehow gamblers blank losses out or remember wins more than losses.

I must say that losing a few quid before you win does give the gambler a much better rush than just winning from the off however daft it sounds 🤔🥴 and nowadays I tell anyone and try to practice this myself if you get a decent win BUY something just so you can’t give it the bookie,arcade or casino back I’ve found it makes a difference?

The change to 2 pound stakes  on the FOBT’s was the best thing that could happen for me. For some reason I always spent way too much money on those machines, but was always very controlled in the casino, never quite understood my psyche on that one. I rarely play them now and prefer sticking to once a month in casino and usual horse/football bets

since the “£2 cap” cake in I have had some horrific days... £2.5k, £1.75k, umpteen £500-£1k losses etc.

Ive also had some brilliant days +£2.5k in an hour etc.

Totally agree with all the above been to shopping centre with 2K in my pocket really wanted some new trainers but thought I could win the money for them obviously lost everything so if I would have just brought my trainers I could have went home with £1900 in the end I left with no trainers and £000 in my pocket.

If a gambler gets a win then he only sees the winnings as more play money, it's lost all meaning other than being able to play longer and harder.

The thought of spending £70 on some trainers can wait till I win another £1000..... then I'll buy trainers

I remember Jimmy White [snooker for the youngsters] saying he was at home looking out the window at his car, knowing in  the boot was his poker winnings from the night  before. Wifey probably knew nothing .... but it was burning him up as he just wanted to play again... £100k in his boot.
