Anybody play poker?

Hey everyone! Just curious if any of you here play, have played, or are interested in poker - mainly Texas Hold'em - whether it is in Vegas, London, or online. Thought to start a topic on it since it has not been mentioned yet.

The Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) just recently started on PokerStars. I recently played 3 out of around 15 events that I will be playing in the coming week and a half. If anything interesting happens, I'll post an update here.

In the meantime, what is your opinion about poker? Any stories? I'll take the good and the bad.

I enjoy playing poker, especially tournaments. The best I ever managed was 2nd place at the poker club in Morden, Surrey. Not a big fan of online poker, too many faceless idiots, all in with a pair of twos, and getting it against your AK??? Watching it on TV makes me realise just how poor a player I am lol.

But at club tourneys you can have a good few hours fun in an evening for £20 or £30.

Not disagreeing that shoving PF with 22 is a donk play but it is still a marginal favourite against AK.

I used to play quite regularly around 12 years ago, mostly in dingy clubs around Walthamstow. I play when I go to Vegas, but haven't played in the UK in a long time.

Maybe not the best example from me but you get my drift. Even at small table games there always seems to be someone all in on every round. Face to face is my preference.

I used to play every week in a pub game, one of the players was Mike Brewers brother 'wheeler Dealers" he's a professional magician so when it was his turn to deal someone else had to deal for him. 🤔🤔🤔

Love playing Texas Hold'em but tournaments only... The wife and I often have the kids round for a game on  a Sunday night or neighbors on a weeknight

  • 2 weeks later...

Used to play in Luton and Stratford quite a bit mainly, and around London. Was in a bigger little tournament with top 20 odd pay and first place was just shy of 10 grand, made it to the final table.. well above average and I got dealt KK. Extremely happy, I called and no one raised. Small cards came out with a K so I pushed all in, got called by chip leader with Bullets. Next cards, A, A. Gutted! Didnt even clear £500 as well only a few places off a good pot!

I like to play in local poker tournaments at my local casinos, I’ve cashed a few times but never more than £150. I’ve always had a lot more joy on the cash table afterwards. One night about 7 years ago, there were a number of people who were playing cash games afterwards. We carried on through on £1/£2 blinds until 13:00 the next day.... ended up about £1200 up.

I played a cash game lat year where there was total maniac involved and I mean a total maniac, raising stupid money PF for a £1/2 table to the point people were leaving because of it (I found this strange)...

Anyway, I sat patiently waiting for an opportunity.... He did his usual silly raise to £50 PF and I re-raised to £100, he re-re raised to £200 and I call, flop is K104 rainbow, I check, he bets £100, I raise to £250, he ponders, shows his 88 and says “your AK is good”... I showed him my A6 suited and gladly raked his chips... The only way to beat a bully is to bully him right back...

Point made I left a little while later but apparently he then went on mega tilt and lost well into four figures 🤣

I was in a tournament, about 100 or so, 7 at my table. I've got pocket As, the guy to my right has chips In his hand, playing with them whilst pondering his bet, and seems to accidently drop the lot onto the table. He asks the dealer what happens now and the dealer says that he can treat it as a bet or fold and that if he folds he will lose the money anyway as its classed as a bet as its on the table. He says he might as well call it a bet and at least wait until the first 3 community cards are turned. Cutting a long story short he too had pocket As.

To this day I can't fathom why he wasn't booted out of the club, let alone the tourney. They said they had to  give him the benefit of the doubt.

Yea seems like he was at it, deliberately dropping the chips over the line knowing they would be called a bet and then the speech play after is equally poor (although not breaking the rules)

It's happened a couple times in televised tournaments too. Cant remember the guys name but hes done it 3 times, columbian or Chilean or something and he claims it's the language barrier.. ends up having to call or raise, as planned, and then takes a big pot. It's completely fraudulent and a disgusting tactic. I'd get up and smash someones face into the table if they did it to me, especially if I'd paid good money for the tournament

Just played a quick Sit&Go from my hotel room in Mexico. Ended up winning it with a combination of a good run of cards and patience.

I’ve seen similar things too, it’s known as angle shooting and isn’t breaking the rules just stretching them to the limit. A bit like a footballer going to ground to show the ref that the opponent has barely touched him....
