Gordon Elliott - General Discussion - Stop and Step

Gordon Elliott

I can only compare Gordon Elliott having his photo taken sitting on a dead horse with Gary Glitter taking his computer to be repaired with child porn on his hard drive.

Cheveley Park have already taken their horses out of his stables and if his other owners with horses entered at Cheltenham want them to run there then I would imagine they will all follow suit. The only other option would be for Elliott to stand down and hand over the running of his stables to someone else.

This is the biggest scandal to hit racing in years, bigger than any coup or race fixing story.

The people I feel sorry for are the staff at the stables, they've been let down badly by their boss.

I think the minimum he can expect is a 3 month ban but wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he got 3 years. The IRHB and the BHB will not want to be seen as pussys.

It's a nothing story riddled with faux outrage.

Jockeys whip the shit out of horses. 100s die on the course every year. A horse has died on the gallops.

People lose their mind because he sat on a dead horse. Embarrassing double standards.

I can't believe you think this is a nothing story. As I said, for me this is the biggest story to hit racing in years. The damage that the photo has done to the image of racing is immense. It has set the sport back years.

Some jockeys use the whip "excessively" on occasions but no jockey ever whips the shit out of a horse ever. Approximately 150 - 200 racehorses die each year whilst racing, flat and jumps, there are about 20.000 in training. Riddled with feaux outrage is a very unfair thing to say, it suggested the world is full of hypocrites.

I can only speak for myself, I love horses and think the whole affair is disgusting.

Are you serious @DaveM

do you think sitting on a dead horse and "posing" for the camera is nothing. The BHA obviously don't think it's nothing. His excuse I sat down to take a phone call. Was there nowhere else to sit.

Looks like you were right - 12 month ban with the last 6 months suspended. So effectively just a 6 month ban.

You can condemn the Sheikh as much as you like but proving anything against him? Good luck with that one.

Back to the original story of Mr Elliott. He has enough room to train 200 horses at his yard/stables. Let's say 1 stable staff for every 2 horses. Secretary's , horsebox drivers, staff to mix and prepare feed. Office staff to pay wages, enter the horses into races and gawd knows how many other administrators. Canteen staff. Housing and accommodation for the live in staff, I can't even begin to imagine how many peoples lives one man's stupidity has ruined. A multi million pound empire has gone tits up. A bomb has gone off and debris strewn far and wide.

12 months ban with 6 months suspended? Have the IHRB really thought this through? Or maybe they have and come to the conclusion that the staff have suffered enough and hope the jobs that will be left can be salvaged.

I call it as I see it. I do feel there is a significant level of hypocrisy in it to say it is more acceptable to whip a living aninal than sit on one that has died of a heart attack while on the gallops. Not seen any notable anger from within the sport that the horse died. Horses dying it seen as acceptable to the sport. Sitting of the body of a dead one shouldn't be the thing people are angry about

100% serious.

4 horses died on the course in the first 3 days of March without a peep while people go apeshit over him sitting on the body of a dead horse. Embarrassing that the reaction is more of disgust that he sat on the horse than the horse died.

And the BHA are acting in the interest of the sport and doing a PR job.

No ones live is ruined.  All that will happen is Gordon won't be named as trainer for 6 months.  He will still be on the gallops every day as he lives there.  It's a joke of a suspension.
