Self excluded

Hi new hear, I self excluded from all local bookies and signed up to GameStop so I can't gamble online but recently I had the urge to have a gamble so walked into a bookies that I was excluded from but they let me play, even allowed me to use my bank card to make a deposit onto the fobt machines, 2 questions Ive recently won £1000 £500 gold pot and a few gambles but when went to claim it they said because it's over £1000 they have to transfer it back to my bank via BACS from there account department, my worry is that it will flag up that I'm already excluded? And I won't get my money the other question is like online casino where they have a duty of care and in some cases the deposit have been returned because they shouldn't of been accepted being self excluded, does the same thing stand with bookies, so for example if they accepted a card payment when your excluded should all the deposits be refunded?

The way it usually works is that every establishment that takes card payments is issued an MCC code - these are industry standard codes to identify the line of business. If you’re blocked from using your card in certain industries, then it would have been blocked when taking your payment to play. A similar scheme is used to stop people using their work credit card in a strip joint for instance.

As such, you should be fine. If they’re paying you by BACS (I’m not sure how they can unless you provided your sort code and account number) then it’ll hit your account. If they’re paying via naked refund to your card (as in not refunding a certain transaction like they would do when returning unwanted goods at Tesco), assuming it’s the same card you paid with, it will be fine too.

They took my name address sort code and account number because they said that's how they pay out, even though I'm sure previous other bookies have just payed out to the card the deposit was made from, anyway this is why I now worried I won't get payed because with my details surly it will flag up that I'm previously excluded 🙈

It’s very unlikely (and I’m not sure it’s possible) that they can block a BACS transaction based upon the line of business, only withdrawals. It could in theory be your wages from a new job, banks would have an impossible job if they were to monitor this too.

I was just thinking that the bookies wouldn't process it, if they find out I'm excluded, I won it Saturday afternoon and they said no one is on the account department till Monday so wouldn't get processed till Monday so just a case of waiting now

Ah, I see. I can’t vouch for how scrupulous the bookies are, however it does seem strange that they’ve asked for your address details for a BACS payment. It’s not needed on a BACS payment, nor is there anywhere to put it! Unfortunately, it seems you’re at the mercy of the bookies. If you self exclude, do you need to provide your address? If so, they may then pick up on it.

What Bookie? I had £1,100 payout from Hills in March no trouble so if them it's a policy change.

Also, when you get your money send a very strongly worded letter of complaint about their failure to prevent you from gambling. It's lucky this time you won but it could have been a losing session. As you have won It won't look like sour grapes at a loss and the accusation you wouldn't complain if you won cannot be used against you.

I have never heard of this? Even last week Ladbrokes we’re happily refunding to my card.

Id be furious if they wanted to do it by BACS rather than card refund after they have been quick enough to take a deposit from your card. My advice if your going to play using a DC is don’t go to Corbet!

I think you’ll get your money btw, but, there is a small risk they’ll see your exclusion and stop it but this would open up u claiming back the deposit you won from so I doubt it would be worth the hassle to them.

Here's hoping. I cant see how there would be an issue, as the accounts department shouldn't check against self exclusion or anything.Fingers crossed. Ps does Corbett, still have pictures of ronnie corbett everywhere??

As an ex bookie worker, no you wouldnt have anything flag up when refunding. That being said, something tells me this worker has took these details down because they knew you were self excluded. If this is the case it is basically proof that they allowed you in, to deposit and gamble knowing all along you were excluded and in my opinion if they dont give you the full winnings amount you should take it higher as they've been extremely irresponsible if they let you gamble knowing you self exclude. But count this as a lucky day and keep out if I were you
