Ive heard a thew staff say in past in local bookies. I hope no one wins a lot we hardly got any cash in. If that the case should they close up shop for day until they get the cash in?.

Even i seen this just getting 80£ back and they having to scrounge round for it in tills.

It’s frustrating when you hand in your ticket only to be told they don’t have enough to pay you out, I don’t like it one bit. Most bookies, if not all, have safes with a time lock on them but the real reason they don’t hold too much cash is that unfortunately there are people out there who would stab their granny for a packet of Benson and Hedges. A couple of times I’ve been lucky enough to win sizeable amounts “over 3k” and I just say to the cashier that I don’t want my winnings put on my Debit card so I’ll be back 24 hours from the current time and I expect cash please. Even then one cashier told me that I’d be lucky to get cash in “just 24 hours” They can pay cash into their company’s account but can’t withdraw it, which makes sense. If you place a bet using your Debit card “I’m pretty sure that you can’t use your credit cards any more” they will only pay you by putting winnings back on the account, regardless of how big or little the winnings.

it’s very rare to see more than one person working in a bookie shop nowadays unless it’s a Saturday or a big race like the National or the Derby or Cheltenham Festival. Bookie staff are very vulnerable. Bookies would say it’s not profitable to have more staff most days but those greedy cunts make me sick as they are ALL making profits in the hundreds of millions.

so yeah, after all that, it’s basically because there are too many nut jobs around 😀

never won enough for the bookie to refuse, once I put about £250 in rainbow riches and lost it all and next day I went back in, on the same machine and within 4 spins, I got the silver pot for a refund

I had this problem with a Betfred just before Christmas, about £250 and was only able to pick up today. tbf they were very apologetic and gave me and another guy affected a cup of coffee. They really should tell you when you go in if they have no funds to pay out.

This used to be more of a problem than it is now, as they seem to have (slightly) upped the floats of cash that they carry.

Personally I reckon there should be a law stating that if they cannot pay out a win (lets say, £500) then they should be forced to close until such time that they do have funds on site to pay it. That will focus their minds on holding a half decent float.

Same goes at Moto services, Junction 33 of the M4 has one of those ATM type payout things that you put your winning ticket in. Don't bother playing those machines any time after 11pm, there won't be any money in it to pay you, and you have to go back the following day to collect your money. I've had it before that I've had to go back THREE further times before I can collect my winnings. If they machine is out of cash, they should (I think) be forced to turn the fruities off.

Wow, that’s bad! Do you have to go to the same service station or will any Moto do? It could be a real pain in the arse if you’re on your travels and you only stopped off for a hour or for some lunch.

Apparently you have to use the services that you won at, no other services machines will cash your winnings.

Considering they're all Moto services, this seems like somewhat of a scam to me. You can't even drive to the next services to get your money if the one you're in runs out.

Worst case it can go on your debit card?

I think that takes 3 days to arrive though doesn't it? If so, that's not (to me anyway) acceptable.

It’s pretty good now 24 hours or less, I have a Santander account and it is always credited around 5am the next morning

If you bet in cash you should expect to be paid out in cash. Also if your bank sees regular deposits and withdrawals to and from bookies and casinos it can affect your chances of getting a mortgage.

If you’re a young man or woman who might be considering getting a mortgage at some point I would recommend getting for example a coral connect card or Ladbrokes card “or similar” where you can deposit money on your account with cash in the shop, go home and gamble on line and if you’re lucky enough to have a win you can cashout in the shop via your card. That way nothing is traceable back to your bank, or your partner come to that😀
