First casino trip since January

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I’m on holiday in the Reno-Tahoe area for the rest of this week. My parents and I went to a casino in Carson City today, the first time I stepped inside a casino since the pandemic began. Played 2 sessions of video poker, with lunch in between. The first time, put $20 in, played until I was down to about $6 and got this for $100:

I ended up cashing out $80.

After lunch, I put another $20 in a different machine. The good luck continues when I was dealt this beauty:

That’s $500 from a $1.25 stake! Cashed out at exactly $500. Walked away with a net gain of $540. Probably one of my best sessions in a while.

Well done! What are the casino's like out there at the moment?
The 4 Aces with any 2, 3, 4 pay more than a straight flush, but are displayed lower on the pay-table 😕

At the one casino I went in, I noticed that every other slot had a chair missing, likely to encourage social distancing and not have people sit next to each other. Some of them had plexiglass in between. There is hand sanitizer at all entrances to the casino. Masks are mandatory.

As for the 4 aces, this version of video poker is called “Double Double Bonus.” The payoffs for certain 4 of a kinds are increased at the expense of reducing the payoff for 2 pair to only money back, which makes it a very volatile game.

We went to a different casino today. Similar set up with chairs missing and hand sanitizer, but also everyone had their temperature taken upon entering the building.

First game I played was a Deuces Wild variant, which pays a huge premium for 4 deuces. I’ve played this game every year when I visit and still cannot get the 4 deuces here, even though I seem to get it elsewhere. I put $20 in and quickly built it up to around $50, mainly thanks to a couple of wild royals. Then I went back and forth between $40 and $50 for a while until I got a third wild royal. My balanced peaked at around $83 before slowly dropping back to $50, which I cashed out. I played for at least 30 minutes, possibly 45. Here’s a pic of one of the wild royals I got. 125 credits = $31.25:

Later on, my dad and I each tried our luck on Wheel Poker. Nothing to show you here though. I put in $10 and lost it fairly quickly. Spent the rest of the day watching my parents play.

While watching my dad play, I heard a woman scream, shouting to her friends across the room that she was dealt 4 aces. I walked over to check it out. She was playing a multi-hand video poker variant called “Double Super Times Pay” - playing 5 hands with a total stake of $3.50. She had yet to push the draw button and was guaranteed to win at least $400, assuming she didn’t improve the aces to include a 2, 3, or 4 kicker. When she pushed the draw button, the multiplier feature was randomly awarded with a 3x multiplier and 2 of the 5 hands received improved to contain a 2-4 kicker. Total win was $600 + $600 + $240 + $240 + $240 = $1,920! It was very exciting to watch!

I then watched my mother play Buffalo Gold Revolution at $1.50 stake. She later increased the stake to $2.25 and got this base game win:

If anything else interesting happens this week, I’ll make sure to keep you all updated. 🙂

Today we played at a casino in North Tahoe after a scenic drive around the lake. Unfortunately, no luck for me this time. $20 lost in video poker and another $4 lost playing minimum stake on Buffalo, just for fun. My mother had a couple of big wins during the free games on a slot called “Vegas Riches”. I have 2 pics of the first big win:

Stake: $1.20  Win: $176.80

Finally, I want to share with you how prevalent William Hill is in the state of Nevada. Darren filmed one of the locations during his last trip to Vegas. Over the past several years, they have taken over many of the sports books in the state. Many, if not most casinos in Tahoe, Carson City, Reno, and parts of Vegas outside the strip have a William Hill bookies. This one is taken in a relatively small casino in North Lake Tahoe:
