Roulette payout 91%?

Hi all - first post here!

I have noticed that the 'High 5' roulette game on some FOBTs claims a payout of just 91%.

It looks to be a perfectly normal roulette game, with just a single 0 and no requirement to play a qualifying game to get onto the board, but when you press the 'info' button you get the following:

"This game is random"

"This game operates differently to normal roulette"

"As a result, the average percentage payout will be approximately 91% compared to 97.3% for normal roulette"

Does anybody know what it is they're doing differently?  I can't see how what looks to be a bog standard roulette game, being drawn at random, can have a payout of 91%.

The 97.3% equates to roulette "edge" with a single zero  i.e. 37/36. A double zero doubles the edge for the casino. Often referred to as European roulette vs American roulette wheels. Extra non-standard options added to bookies roulette no doubt increase the edge further.

Quoting 91% (presumably RTP), means the fobt is generating a random number to equate to a win, so completely unrelated to the odds the roulette reel is portraying. In my mind it is misrepresentation and as DAVEM commented treating players as mugs.

Roulette should be the odds displayed, which is why they add extra zeros, or bonus wheels, or 'golden odds', to lower the RTP. It seems the High 5 Roulette isn't playing fair, 'Quoting 91% (presumably RTP), means the fobt is generating a random number to equate to a win, so completely unrelated to the odds the roulette reel is portraying.' This sounds accurate. I'd avoid that game.
