Essential travel - General Discussion - Stop and Step

Essential travel

Recommended Posts

I have a hotel booked in Sheffield on Thursday and a planned visit to a local casino.  My addicted gambling brain is saying that this is essential travel and I can justify going.  My much smaller rational brain says don't be so bloody stupid, cancel everything, the casino may not even be open and even if it is there will be nasty fingerprints all over the terminals.  It's a tough call.

On the same vein Mr Stop, is a visit to the bookies or your local bingo hall/arcade to support your youtube channel postings  'essential travel'?.....

It's not essential in the slightest.

Stay home. If you leave the house wash your hands before you go and as soon as you get back. The sooner everyone wakes up and starts doing what has been suggester the more of our parents and grandparents will see next Christmas. This virus is sneaky with many people barely knowing they have it and it taking 5-9 days to show symptoms.

The Spanish flu of 1918 infected 500 million people around the world, or about 27% of the world population of between 1.8 and 1.9 billion. The death toll is estimated to have been anywhere from 17 million to 50 million, and possibly as high as 100 million.

It's not really essential. One arcade had gloves and disinfectant wet wipes for the customers to use, so probably a lot cleaner than a shopping trolley or self-service kiosk.

I took the opportunity to use a wetwipe from work on my phone today. Probably something we should all do time to time to stop infection spread. I do wonder if we are going to come out of this over sanitising our environment though. Do we need a little dirt in life to build immunity?

I've heard land based are all to be closed???

Here in the US, every leisure establishment is closing. Las Vegas is completely shut down. The Governor of Nevada announced a mandatory closure of all hotels and casinos for one month.

In California, nearly all tribal casinos have also closed. In the county where my father works, all non-essential businesses were forced to close, so my dad is now home for the next 2 weeks. My mother, who is employed in education, now works remotely from home, as campus is closed.

Meanwhile, the bookies and arcades are apparently still open for Darren to record his videos. 😂
