Credit Card Ban for Online Gambling - Online Casinos - Stop and Step

Credit Card Ban for Online Gambling

From April the 14th 2020 online casino's will no longer be allowed to take bets/deposits via credit card. An estimated 800,000 people have used a credit card at some point to gamble. This is part of a wider overhaul of the UK gambling industry which will include a full review of the Gambling Act and will eventually likely see a reduction in online betting stakes which currently has no legal upper limit.

What are you views on the ban on credit card deposits for online casinos?

To be honest I think this is a fantastic idea to stop people getting into debt, We’ve all spunked are wages once or twice and then tried to recover using the credit card. Now I just watch your videos and the bandits.

I think it’s a great idea, I feel that if anyone is using there credit card to gamble its inly going to eventually end up going the wring way, However I can also see the benefits if using your credit card as for fraud not many people like to use there debit card online, But altogether this is going to reduce the amount if people betting online

I thought there was already a ban. Although I no longer play any online slots. Mainly cause I registered with GamStop and registered myself away from that years ago, but also it was tempting to play wages on it every month, then I was scrambling around to pay the important things at the same time, which I struggled with. No thankfully I don't have that problem anymore.

My old man told me once that you never used to be able to use your credit card in casinos nor could you make cash withdrawals if it put you overdrawn. Maybe someone can clarify me or correct me on that, but it seems like they’re just reintroducing old legislation for online casinos.

Anyway, if you want to gamble on tick then you still can. A balance transfer from your credit card to your debit card can be done in seconds and no one will stop you gambling with it. To me it seems like a lot of posturing about tackling problem gamblers but with no substance.

Tbh it wont stop folk using a credit card to gamble as you can still balance transfer from credit to debit card, and if anyones that addicted to gambling they can do this through their internet banking, mobile app even telephone banking. Its a short term fix for a long term problem. An addicted gambler will always find a way, its the same as a drug addict, alcoholic and addiction. Where theres a will theres a way!

What gets me more than this is I'm on gamstop because those fkn things nearly took my life. My mate played slots on my computer when he stayed over. His details were saved. I got hammered got into the account they allowed me to use my debit card registered to me not him I didn't hide anything put my real name in obvs different to the account holder and managed to FML again in 3 hours. Now that is really wrong! The account was only opened the night he stayed and had been used once no docs had been requested or anything and they allowed rapid deposits that started small then escalated to ridiculous amounts without any red flags being raised. What if that was a child using their parents card or someone using a stolen card? I've reported this to the gambling commission but they didn't seem too concerned that this was allowed to happen and I'm currently in a battle to have my money returned. The casino in question is kassu absolutely disgusting!

I personally think this will help a lot of people. I personally have ruined my credit and to a reasonable degree the next 10 years of my life by gambling with my credit cards. I lost £40k. I am now on a debt management plan, cant get credit and am a lot worse off than i was. I dont gamble online any more and cant. Another good piece of advice is dont gamble after you have been drinking....obvious i know but this also caused problems for me.

good luck all x

Think it’s amazing idea .... I don’t play online myself I just use FOBT machines so doesn’t affect me ..... but I have a question if anyone can answer if you play online and they don’t take your bank details and you win ? How do they pay it too you ? Am just not sure of how it works as I don’t use online slots it’s probably easy answer ?

Good idea - won't deter the persistent gambler but will act as a handy brake and make those of us with problems stop and think before just clicking and spending.
