One of the most fundamental things when gambling is to keep a log of ALL WINS AND LOSSES. Its so easy to top up again and again without realising how much you're losing if you don't keep track. Also it will probably help you from losing too much over time. Another thing is that it puts you're winnings into perspective, you may find that a nice win still hasn't put you back "in the black". 

I got a shock when I first started doing it but it very quickly made me realise I needed to alter my betting strategy.
